The Tambopata National Reserve is 274,690 hectares (1,061 square miles) of preserved land in Southeastern Peru. The Reserve has many diverse habitats, including lowland Amazon rainforest, riverine forest, and oxbow lakes.
It’s crossed by three rivers: the Malinowski, the Tambopata, and the Madre de Dios rivers.
Because of the Reserve’s protected status and secluded location, it’s incredibly biodiverse. The Reserve plays host to over 1,000 species of butterflies, 100 species of mammals, around 600 species of birds, and hundreds of species of trees and plants.
In fact, this reserve and surrounding region is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet!
DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado - Lodge in Tambopata
Arrive to Puerto Maldonado the Capital of biodiversity of the Peru join with Manu Jungle Reserve, Pick up at the airport and travel into the city. We will take a boat from the port that will take us down the Tambopata River.
We will travel a little more than four hour to the Tambopata Wasai Lodge located close to Macaw Clay Lick. You will be placed in bungalows according to your reservation.
At this point we will take a two hour hike through the jungle with a guide. We will see a great diversity of flora and fauna. In the night it is possible to see caimans and the great diversity of wildlife around the Sandoval Lake. We will return to the lodge, have dinner and lodging.
DAY 2: Lodge in Tambopata - Macaw Clay Lick - Sandoval Lake
After the breakfast, we will travel by the Tambopata River by approximately one hour to Macaw Clay Lick, to locate us in the hiding place, where we will be able to appreciate the arrival of the Macaws, Parrots and Parakeets; it is possible to observe the sunrise in the forestwe, can see the same in Manu Jungle Trip.
Return to the Lodge to have breakfast and soon to initiate the return to the city of Puerto Maldonado and to continue until the entrance of Sandoval Lake, from the border we will make a long walk of approximately 1,30 hrs.
We will arrive and you will be placed in bungalows according to your reservation. (Mejía Lodge, basic accomodation). At night it is possible to observe Caymans in the Lake. Have dinner and lodging.
DAY 03: Sandoval Lake - Monkeys Island
After breakfast, we will used boat around the Sandoval Lake, where you will appreciate the diversity of flora: as orchids, platanillos, ungurahuis, aguaje palm.
Great diversity of Fauna as well, a quantity of otter, ducks, black and white caimans, wild hens, taricayas (small turtles) and a variety of fishes. It is possible to take a refreshing bath in the lake without danger. Then we will then return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch we will visit Monkey Island and return to the city. We will stay in the Cabana Quinta Hotel *** and having dinner in typical restaurant. Manu National Reserve has the largest extension of jungle territory, even larger than Tambopata Reserve.
DAY 4: PUERTO MALDONADO / AIRPORT
Breakfast and transport from the hotel to the airport.
