Four ways to get to Machu Picchu
How to get to Machu Picchu ?, is one of the most frequent questions we receive frequently in Peru Andea Travel in the next post, we will show you four different routes to reach one of the Seven Wonders of the Machu Picchu World
1.- Machu picchu by Train:
The map shows a train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu Pueblo, as it is the shortest and most frequent route. There is also a train from Cusco, but it is only offered by Peru Rail and in some of its top services.
To go from Cusco to Ollantaytambo there are several buses and vans that operate throughout the day. Just ask any taxi or the hotel about the whereabouts. More than 2 years ago I was 10 soles per person in the vans.
There are currently two companies: Peru Rail and Inca Rail. For Peruvians there is a local train whose purchase of the ticket is with DNI.

2.- Machu picchu by car - Santa Teresa
It is recommended to go when it is NOT the rainy season. The rainy season is normally from December to March, however you never know with the weather.
It is always better to ask at the tourist information booths if the route is in good condition on the dates of your trip.

3.- Inca Trail
It is the most famous and well-preserved road of the entire length of Inca roads that the Inca Culture had.
They are cobbled routes that cross important archaeological complexes such as: Huayllabamba, Runcuracay, Sayacmarca, Puyupatamarca, Wiñayhuayna and Intipuncu until reaching the great citadel of Machu Picchu.
It is a trek that can last 4 or 2 days depending on the point from where you start walking. It is mandatory to go with a guide and therefore it is necessary to hire an Inca trail tour.
It must be reserved in advance as there are a maximum number of tickets per day, in order to protect the place.

4.- Salkantay Trekking
As the Inca trail became so famous, it is difficult to get a space if it is not booked well in advance and its prices increased due to high demand.
For this reason, many people began to go through the Salkantay route, which can be traveled on their own (it is always better to hire a local guide so as not to get lost) or also to hire a tour from a travel agency.
The minimum duration to know Machu Picchu through the Salkantay route is 5 days, it is recommended that people who choose this route are in good physical condition, since this trek is of a high level of demand.
